Overview
Gaucho Devs builds AR experiences that turn a wine label into the entry point to a story. I worked as Unity developer on several of them: Mosquita Muerta Wines, where an animated story with original characters, music and sound design grew over several releases into a connected AR universe across the product line; Kadabra, with its own cast of magic-themed characters; and Gran Pillo by Yanardi Wines, where the label comes alive and winemaker Sergio Yanardi appears next to the bottle.
Challenge
The experience had to work instantly on a wide range of consumer phones, recognise printed labels reliably in real-world lighting, and be engaging enough that people would come back and scan the next bottle.
Solution
Image-tracked AR in Unity for iOS and Android, with each label acting as a target for its own story. The same content was later extended into a large-format piece for cylindrical LED screens at an industry trade fair.
Outcome
The first version launched in February 2020 and passed 20,000 Android downloads in its first seven months, from users in 12 countries. Across releases the experiences reached more than 200,000 combined downloads on Android and iOS.
